Rising featherweight Chas Skelly will go for his fifth straight win on March 5, as the UFC announced on Tuesday that he’ll take on Darren Elkins at UFC 197.
The 30-year-old Skelly has been on a tear since a close majority decision loss to Mirsad Bektic in his short notice UFC debut, beating four straight opponents over the last 15 months. That loss to Bektic in April of 2014 is the only loss in his career, and since then he’s submitted Tom Niinimaki, scored a decision over Sean Soriano, taken out Jim Alers by strikes, and, in his most recent outing, submitted Kevin Souza.
He gets a step up in competition against No. 11 ranked Elkins, who is 8-3 overall in the UFC’s featherweight division. Elkins most recently defeated Robert Whiteford, but he’s been inconsistent recently, alternating wins and losses since 2013. Those losses came against Chad Mendes, Jeremy Stephens, and Hacran Dias, while he’s picked up wins over Hatsu Hioki and Lucas Martins in addition to that most recent victory.
UFC 197 hits Las Vegas on March 5, headlined by the UFC Lightweight Championship bout between Rafael dos Anjos and UFC Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor.
