UFC returns to Chicago for fifth straight year on July 23 for UFC on Fox 20

For the fifth straight year, Chicago, Ill., will host a UFC on Fox card.

The UFC announced on Wednesday that UFC on Fox 20 will emanate from the United Center on July 23, almost exactly one year from the T.J. Dillashaw vs. Renan Barao II headlined UFC on Fox 16 event from the same arena.

No fights have been announced for the event, but it’s the second July Fox card in the city after three straight January events from 2012-2014. The UFC has been to Illinois only one other time outside of the Fox cards at the United Center, with 2008’s UFC 90 pay-per-view hitting the AllState Arena in neighboring Rosemont.

Penick’s Analysis: This would be as good a spot as any for CM Punk’s debut, but after he said this week UFC 200 would be only a 10% possibility, it’s unlikely he’ll be able to fight by then. Regardless, expect something significant, as they’ve stacked the Fox cards fairly well for the last year, and will probably put together the best fights not used for the early July slate.
