The UFC’s May event in Brazil just got a significant welterweight addition, as the UFC announced on Monday that Demian Maia will meet Matt Brown on the May 14 Fight Night card.

Maia is making a push for a title fight in the division on the strength of four straight welterweight wins. He holds a 7-2 mark overall since dropping down from middleweight, and after a highly impressive dismantling of Gunnar Nelson in his last fight, he’s looking to continue moving up the ladder.

Brown isn’t quite top five, but he represents another top end and entertaining competitor, giving Maia both a significant challenge and a major opportunity to keep moving forward. After consecutive losses to now-champ Robbie Lawler and former champ Johny Hendricks, Brown bounced back last July at UFC 189 with a submission win over Tim Means.

The UFC Fight Night card in Brazil on May 14 will be headlined by the middleweight contender bout between Vitor Belfort and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, and is expected to air live on Fox Sports 1.
