UFC reportedly releases former Strikeforce Champ “Feijao” Cavalcante, TUF Brazil’s Daniel Sarafian

Brazilian fighters Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante and Daniel Sarafian have been cut from the UFC’s roster this week, according to a report from Olimpo MMA in Brazil.

Cavalcante, the former Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion, failed to find much success in the UFC, posting just a 1-4 mark inside the Octagon. He lost his last three, capped off with a February decision loss to Ovince St. Preux in a bad fight at UFC Fight Night 82.

Sarafian made it to the finals of The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil, but wasn’t able to compete in that bout due to injury. He made his debut in a split decision loss to C.B. Dolloway, and he went just 2-4 overall in his three year run. The final straw came in his most recent loss, as he was taken out with a head kick just a minute in against Oluwale Bamgbose.

Penick’s Analysis: Not surprised by either release. “Feijao” was a disappointment in his UFC run, with several sub-par performances throughout. He failed to come close to what he did in Strikeforce, and it’s hard to see him finding his way back outside of the organization either. Sarafian as well just didn’t live up to expectations, and a 2-4 run doesn’t typically keep fighters around.
