Sam Alvey is out of a scheduled fight with Daniel Sarafian in April, revealing this week that he suffered a broken jaw in training to force him out of the UFC Fight Night 82 event in Pittsburgh.
Alvey told MMALatestNews.com that he “took a big ‘ol foot to the face” during a sparring session, and the injury will keep him out of training for at least the next six weeks. “Smilin’ Sam” has his jaw currently wired shut, and it’s unknown exactly how long it will take for him to return to the cage.
He had been hoping to bounce back from a TKO loss to Derek Brunson in August, which snapped a three fight streak of knockout wins. Sarafian now awaits a new opponent for the event, which hits the Consol Energy Center on Feb. 21. That card airs live on Fox Sports 1.
