UFC Fight Night: Rosas Jr. vs. Barcelos was this past weekend and featured a lot of exciting fights, including a big UFC Flyweight Championship rematch. Who won and who lost? Let’s get to the rundown.
UFC 331
GOOD- Valesca Machado stops Melissa Amaya
They’re trading strikes early until Machado drops Amaya late in the first round with some right hands. Amaya fights back, though, and hurts Machado before the first round ends. The second round begins with more striking exchanges until Machado lands a powerful right hook that drops Amaya. machado follows up with hammerfists until the referee can jump in to stop the fight not quite three and a half minutes into the second round.
Machado improves to 16-4 with 1 No Contest and has won 4 straight fights while Amaya is given her first career loss and drops to 8-1. Good win for Machado.
BAD- Llimbek Akylbek Uulu beats Mehemmedeli Osmanli
They trade short combinations early until Uluu gets a takedown. Osmanli gets up and drops Uulu with a left. But then follows that with an illegal knee to a grounded Uulu that knocks him out. So now fight-ending fouls are judged accordingly? Is Ciryl Gane out of a job?
Uulu wins by Disqualification and improves to 10-3 and has won 3 straight fights while Osmanli drops to 11-2 and has his 9 fight winning streak snapped. It’s a win for Uulu.
GOOD- Luis Hernandez submits Sedriques Dumas
Hernandes lands a quick left then clinches, grabbing a guillotine and tightening it until he gets the submission less than a minute into the fight. Wow.
Hernandez improves to a perfect 9-0 while Dumas drops to 10-6 and has lost 3 straight fights. Good win for Hernandez.
GOOD/BAD- Norma Dumont vs. Ailin Perez
Not much happens for the first few minutes. Things pick up a little bit as they trade strikes for the rest of the first round. The second round begins with Dumont getting a throw and landing on top. Perez gets quickly back to her feet. They trade some more strikes for the rest of the second round. The third round starts with more deliberate striking exchanges. That continues for the rest of the fight. There’s not a whole lot to say here. Some of the striking was good, there just wasn’t enough of it. We go to the judges to render their verdict.
Perez wins the decision to improve to 14-2 and has won 7 straight fights while Dumont drops to 13-4. Good win for Perez.
GOOD- Raul Rosas Jr. stops Raoni Barcelos
Fast-paced striking starts the fight. Lots of two punch combinations for both men until Barcelos gets a trip takedown. Wild start in the first round. The second round begins with more quick striking. Feels like I’m watching on 2x speed. They’re going back and forth until Barcelos gets another quick takedown. The third round starts with even more incredible pace by these fighters. Barcelos gets a takedown but Rosas is battling back and is on top. They stand and trade strikes for a while until Barcelos gets another takedown and the round ends.
The fourth round opens with both men showing the effects of the damage they’ve both sustained. This doesn’t stop them or even slow them down and they’re winging strikes at each other with precision and speed. Barcelos gets another takedown and they grapple. Barcelos grabs the neck but Rosas signals that he’s not in danger and they scramble until the fourth round ends. The fifth round commences with more striking before Barcelos gets a takedown. Rosas is back to his feet and now he gets a trip takedown and something happens with Barcelos and he goes limp. This fight is over.
Rosas improves to 13-1 and has 6 straight fights while Barcelos drops to 22-6 and has his 5 fight winning streak snapped. Good win for Rosas.
Barcelos was quickly stretchered out and sent to the hospital. As of the time I’m writing this, the updates are that Barcelos is awake, alert, and talking and has full movement after a CT scan. I’m hoping for the best news.
