HYDEN BLOG: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly from UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Daukaus and Paul-Woodley II results

UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Daukaus was last night and featured a
record-setting performance by Derrick Lewis. Let’s get to the rundown.

UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Daukaus
GOOD- Cub Swanson stops Darren Elkins
They traded strikes early, with Swanson staggering Elkins with a big
right hand. Elkins fired back but got dropped again by a Swanson
combination. Swanson let him up again, hit a wheel kick, and finished
him off with punches for the stoppage a little over two minutes into
the first round. Elkins falls to 26-10 while Swanson improves to
28-12. Good win for Swanson.

GOOD- Matuesz Gamrot stops Diego Ferreira
Lots of kicks early from these two. They went to the ground but not
much happened. They kept trading kicks before Ferreira landed some
good strikes. Gamrot got another takedown and Ferreira landed more
good strikes and the first round ended. The second round saw both men
connect with some nice strikes. The fight ended when Ferreira hurt his
ribs and the fight had to be stopped almost three and a half minutes
into the second round. Ferreira falls to 17-5 and has lost three
fights in a row while Gamrot moves to 20-1 with 1 No Contest. Good win
for Gamrot, who’s won three in a row after suffering his only loss.

GOOD- Ricky Simon stops Raphael Assuncao
Simon got an early takedown but Assuncao worked his way up. Simon then
hit a slam and started working some ground-and-pound. Nothing major
but he definitely won the round. The second round saw some low kicks
before Simon landed a right hand. A few more big strikes ended the
fight a little over two minutes into the second round. Assuncao falls
to 27-9 and has now lost four fights in a row while Simon moves to
19-3 and has won four fights in a row. Good win for Simon.

GOOD- Angela Hill vs. Amanda Lemos
Lemos knocked Hill to the floor and they grappled there for a while
before they stood and traded strikes. They worked a bit in the clinch
as the first round ends. The second round saw them trade more strikes,
both in the clinch and out. They kept trading for the rest of the
round, with Hill getting an advantage but they both fought hard. The
third round opened with them trading kicks. Hill got a takedown but
they tangled back and forth until they finally separated for a moment
before exchanging on the feet. Hill dropped Lemos with a spinning
elbow. Lemos won by Split Decision and that’s debatable to me. I would
have gone Hill there but it was a close fight. Hill falls to 13-11 and
has lost four of her last five fights. All of them have been by
decision, with three of them being losses by Split Decision. Lemos
improves to 11-1-1. Good win for Lemos.

GOOD- Belal Muhammad vs. Stephen Thompson
Thompson landed some good strikes early, with Muhammad firing back.
Muhammad got some takedowns and landed plenty of short strikes.
Nothing really damaging but he put it on him. The second round saw
more takedowns and short strikes. Muhammad is just blanketing him.
It’s not very exciting but it’s effective. Muhammad got more takedowns
in the third round and that was basically the fight, Muhammad wins the
decision. Thompson falls to 16-6-1 while Muhammad moves to 20-3 with 1
No Contest and has won six fights in a row with one No Contest mixed
in there as well. Good win for Muhammad.

GOOD- Derrick Lewis stops Chris Daukaus
They started slow but things heated up quickly. They traded strikes
before Lewis explodes on Daukaus on the fence. Lewis battered him with
repeated punches before hitting him with a knee to body followed by a
bomb in the clinch and then finished him with a few more power shots
to end the fight just over three and a half minutes into the first
round. Lewis breaks the record for most knockout wins in UFC history
with 13 coming by knockout, with 6 of those coming in the first round.
Daukaus falls to 12-4 after having won his previous five fights. Lewis
improves to 26-8 with 1 No Contest.

I’ll finish with some boxing talk. Paul vs. Woodley II was last night
as well. I won’t go into too much detail since it’s not MMA but the
Unified Featherweight World Champion (she has the WBO, WBC, and IBO
titles) Amanda Serrano beat Miriam Gutierrez by Unanimous Decision
after 10 rounds. Former NBA player Deron Williams beat former NFL
player Frank Gore by Split Decision after 4 rounds which saw them both
shove each other early before Williams got a knockdown in the third
round.
The main event saw a lot of clinching. As in, there was a little
boxing but a whole lot of hugging. But then Paul showed his power and
knocked Woodley out cold in the sixth round and the crowd’s boos
turned into cheers. Paul called out both Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz
after the win. Stranger things have happened but it certainly doesn’t
seem like either of those fights are likely. Paul will probably fight
Tommy Fury next, which was the plan for this fight before Fury pulled
out due to injury and Woodley took the fight on two weeks notice.

My book is on Amazon. It’s called Small Town Crime Cabal.
It’s about a brother and sister who operate a drug and gambling ring
in their small hometown. They want more, though, and hope to expand
beyond the limits of where they grew up. That comes with a price,
though, and the question becomes- are they willing to pay the price?
This is the first in my Brotherhood of the Streets series. It’s on
Kindle Unlimited right now or you can buy it in e-book or paperback
form. If you’re interested, I would greatly appreciate it if you would
check it out and support me. Here’s the link to my book on Amazon- My Book I’ve also
written a sci-fi book called Forever Man, the link is Forever Man: The
Fight to Save the World
. Thank you very much, have a good day.
