“I want to win my belt back… Ear muffs for all the little kids. They told me not to swear. But here is my mom’s favorite momism. This is the advice her coach gave her, I was a little pre-teen when she gave this to me cause I went to the junior nationals and I lost my first junior nationals. I ended up fighting her again later and my mom she like pulled me aside to the mat and she’s like ‘I’m going to tell you what my coach told me’ when she lost the French Open and ended up winning the World Championships later, ‘I’m going to tell you what he told me: Winning’s a b**ch but revenge is a motherf***er.’ You go get her!”
-At a Chicago event hosted by Robin Roberts, Ronda Rousey relays an old saying from her mom to explain why she’s coming back to regain the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship (transcribed by FoxSports.com).
Penick’s Analysis: It’s a solid line, and she’s making her clearest statements of a comeback in months after staying silent out of the cage. We still don’t have a return date or an opponent, and it’s not clear if she’ll come back against Amanda Nunes or in a non-title fight. She’s saying she wants the belt, but she also needs to avenge the loss to Holly Holm in order to erase that memory. We’ll hopefully get something more firm on a return date by the fall, but for now it’s still just words.
