HYDEN BLOG: Conor McGregor’s Special Treatment and Jon Jones Twitter Beef With Dan Hooker

By: Frank Hyden, MMATorch Senior Columnist

With it being Christmas there aren’t any events this week so I’ll just
talk about some MMA news.

Dana White appeared on the DC Check-In YouTube show with Daniel
Cormier and was asked about Conor McGregor getting special treatment.
White was pretty forthright and said that McGregor’s willingness to
fight anyone has earned him special treatment. That’s part of it, and
credit to White for at least admitting that McGregor gets special
treatment. However, we all know the real reason McGregor gets special
treatment but White would never admit to that because it makes him and
the UFC look bad at the jobs.
McGregor gets special treatment because he’s the biggest star the UFC
has. He brings attention and eyeballs that other fighters don’t. He
promotes himself, thus Dana and the UFC don’t have to. Because they’re
not good at promoting fighters. I’ve gone on many a tangent about this
before so I won’t go into the whole bit again but the UFC isn’t good
at making stars. To be fair, though, it’s a 50/50 split between the
fighter and the company in terms of promoting a fighter. As a fighter
you have to be able to string together a few sentences without
tripping over your words and not answer questions like you just got a
jury summons in the mail.
Jake Paul recently said that he makes more money than the entire UFC
roster combined, including McGregor, and that may or may not be true
but the fact that he even said that and didn’t get immediately laughed
at is a damning sign. Everyone knows the UFC underpays their fighters
and that probably doesn’t help people’s feelings about the McGregor
special treatment. Though it also doesn’t stop them from chasing a
fight with him.

Jon Jones and Dan Hooker had some Twitter beef over the past few days.
Basically it all started when Jones reacted to the news that Chael
Sonnen was detained for battery after an alleged hotel brawl and given
five misdemeanor battery charges. Sonnen had previously commented on
Jones being arrested in September for misdemeanor battery domestic
violence and injuring or tampering with a vehicle, for which the
charges were later dropped as part of a plea deal. Jones talked about
how Sonnen was a hypocrite for getting arrested himself. Hooker
inserted himself into the discussion after seeing a story about a
rumor that Sonnen was defending his wife and that’s why he got into
that altercation. Jones and Hooker went back and forth a few times,
with Jones saying Hooker has failed in his own career and thus wants
to attack those who’ve succeeded. They still might be going at each
other later today or tomorrow or whenever they feel like it.
Whether you like Jones or not he should be staying out of things like
this. He should be focused on getting his life correct and in order.
He still talks about moving to heavyweight in 2022 so focus on that.
Maybe there’s money and stuff to be made by engaging in this kind of
thing but you got to make sure your life is in order first.
You know I’m scraping the bottom of the barrel when I’m talking about
junk like this but it’s Christmas and there’s not much going on. What
can I say? Sorry.

My book is on Amazon. It’s called Small Town Crime Cabal.
It’s about a brother and sister who operate a drug and gambling ring
in their small hometown. They want more, though, and hope to expand
beyond the limits of where they grew up. That comes with a price,
though, and the question becomes- are they willing to pay the price?
This is the first in my Brotherhood of the Streets series. It’s on
Kindle Unlimited right now or you can buy it in e-book or paperback
form. If you’re interested, I would greatly appreciate it if you would
check it out and support me. Here’s the link to my book on Amazon- My Book I’ve also
written a sci-fi book called Forever Man, the link is Forever Man: The
Fight to Save the World
. Thank you very much, have a good day.
