3 Fights To Watch 12/18/21

  • Jake Paul vs Tyron Woodley II

Come ooooon! No matter how you feel about it we all gotta watch this, it’s entertainment. I think Tyron Woodley might actually knock Jake Paul out this time. I believe Paul has plateaued, he isn’t getting faster or stronger, what you see I what you get. I hope I’m wrong and he just beats the hell out of Woodley but that’s highly unlikely.

Let’s not ignore the elephant in the room. Jake Paul gave Woodley a Rolex just before the fight so he basically disarmed Tyron already. Honestly,  it was just a show of respect as he said. Tyron took the fight on short notice so he deserved a little something extra. This is the best Tyron Woodley has ever been paid so I’m sure he’s grateful for the opportunity to fight such a high profile opponent. Any time Jake Paul can show up Dana White and the UFC he will.

  • Cub Swanson vs Darren Elkins

This will be fine to watch, two veterans putting it all on the line. This is a preliminary fight, I am confident that it will get things off to a good start.

Elkins has 2 finishes in his last 2 fights. However he is 2-4 in his last 6 fights with 4 straight losses coming before the 2 fight win streak; Elkins may still be on the bubble. Speaking of on the bubble, Swanson is 2-5 in his last 7 fights so he is probably out of here on his next loss as well. 4 straight losses in there as well, their UFC future isn’t bright but that’s what I believe will make this fight one to watch; urgency.

  • Stephen Thompson vs Belal Muhammad

14 decisions, that’s pretty damn boring on paper. Belal Muhammad needs a finish in order to move up in the rankings and get fights that will make him a contender…eventually. He only has 3 losses but they are to people ahead of him in the rankings so he would most likely have to avenge those losses.

This is it, if WonderBoy is going to go anywhere in terms of ever contending again, he has to do it with a win here. Where Belal has failed, WonderBoy has prospered, he’s beaten both Vicente Luque and Geoff Neal. Half of Thompson’s wins are by finishes so there’s a 50/50 chance we get a finish here tonight. I used to think Stephen Thompson was exciting, now he bores me to tears and its looking more and more like this fight will as well. However, the reason it’s one to watch is because if he loses we can write him off for good and never speak of him again.
