UFC Fight Night 85 Bonuses: Mark Hunt, Neil Magny, Jake Matthews, and Johnny Case earn extra $50K each

Mark Hunt and Neil Magny scored “Performance of the Night” bonuses out of UFC Fight Night 85 in Brisbane, taking home an extra $50K apiece for their stoppage wins over Frank Mir and Hector Lombard, respectively. Additionally, young lightweights Jake Matthews and Johnny Case each earned bonuses for their “Fight of the Night” battle on the undercard.

Hunt’s bonus win came for his latest walk-off KO, coming in just three minutes in the night’s main event over Frank Mir. After a couple minutes of the two of them feeling one another out, Hunt landed an overhand right behind the ear that put Mir down.

Magny’s bonus was much more hard-earned, as he had to survive a vicious onslaught from Lombard in the opening minute and a half of the fight that nearly ended the fight. Recover he did, and he took control from there, breaking down the worn out Lombard in the second round before finally getting the stoppage in the second round.

Case, 26, and Matthews, 21, put on a hell of a scrap just before the co-main event. Both got in significant offense throughout the opening ten minutes, with Case landing with frequency and pressuring, while Australia’s Matthews fired back with power strikes himself. Matthews did a lot of damage to Case’s body, but allowed himself to get taken down in response at times, and went into the third round down on two judges scorecards.

In the third, Matthews took over offensively, hurting Case again to the body, getting the fight to the ground, and scoring a rear naked choke with just 15 seconds left in the fight.
