A significant women’s strawweight bout is reportedly heading to UFC on Fox 19 in April, as MMAFighting.com reports that Rose Namajunas and Tecia Torres are being targeted for a rematch on the card.
The two met back in 2013 at Invicta FC 6, with Torres scoring a decision win and handing Namajunas the first loss of her career. Both then entered the UFC through The Ultimate Fighter 20, featuring the tournament to crown the first ever UFC Champion in the women’s strawweight division.
Namajunas wound up making it to the finals of that tournament, but suffered a one-sided loss to Carla Esparza, whom Torres lost to during the tournament. Since then, Namajunas has bounced back with consecutive submission wins. The first came over Angela Hill, and the second in perhaps her career-best performance when she took out Paige VanZant in the fifth round of the main event at UFC Fight Night 80.
As for Torres, she remains undefeated in her professional career, picking up three straight wins in the UFC to move to 7-0 overall. The 26-year-old “Tiny Tornado” most recently defeated Jocelyn Jones-Lybarger at UFC 194, two nights after Namajunas’ victory over VanZant.
UFC on Fox 19 has not yet been officially announced, but is expected to take place on April 16 with a five round main event between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson.
