A new season of Celebrity Apprentice is coming to NBC, and it’s going to have some MMA representation in former multi-time UFC Title challenger Chael Sonnen.
Deadline.com revealed the cast for the eighth season of the program on Thursday, which returns to TV with an all new host in Arnold Schwarzenegger, who replaces current GOP Presidential candidate Donald Trump.
Sonnen, who is still serving out a two-year suspension for multiple PED test failures prior to a planned bout with Wanderlei Silva in 2014, has been keeping himself visible during that time through his ongoing podcast, “You’re Welcome,” and an analyst gig with ESPN.
He’ll be joined on the reality show competition by a mix of athletes, musicians, actors, models, and more, all vying for $250,000 to the charity of their designation. Other athletes involved are Laila Ali, NFL great Eric Dickerson, Olympian and WNBA star Lisa Leslie, and former college football great and NFL burnout Ricky Williams. Some more well known names include Boy George, Jon Lovitz, Vince Neil, and Carnie Wilson. The full list available at Deadline.
Penick’s Analysis: This seems up his alley, though it’s impossible to know how it’s going to turn out for him. He’s a fast enough talker and, in all honesty, seems smart enough to do well in this type of thing. There’s still, despite him essentially retiring after his PED failures, a chance he comes back to the cage when his suspension is up this spring, so it wouldn’t surprise me if this was another way to put his name back out there in advance of that.
