Ronda Rousey’s posted a quick comment about her upcoming hosting gig on Saturday night live on January 23, and it certainly appears as if she’s ready to show some humility after her KO loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193.
Here’s what she had to say on Instagram:
“Beyond excited/nervous/honored to host [Saturday Night Live on Jan. 23],” she wrote, “hopefully you’ll be watching and laughing either at or with me that night.”
Rousey’s 2016 was already slated to begin out of the cage, with film commitments keeping her out of action likely until UFC 200.
Penick’s Analysis: This is very much a move towards re-building her a bit after the Holm loss. She hasn’t lost her star power despite that defeat, but with the backlash she received following the loss this is a chance for her to laugh at herself, and potentially endear herself to the audience again. A PR play? Very likely, but it’s still a gutsy move on her part to do something very much out of her comfort zone. We’ll see how she handles things the week into Jan. 23, and she may fall on her face with it, but it’s certainly not an easy thing she’s taken on.
