Ovince Saint Preux made it through 25 minutes with Jon Jones on Saturday at UFC 197, occasionally connecting on strikes but generally just managing to avoid getting stopped throughout the bout. That survival – and any offense he may have had in the second half of the fight – may be even more impressive with the revelation that he broke his arm early on in the bout.

According to Saint Preux’s coach Joey Zonar, via a report at MMAFighting.com, Saint Preux’s injury happened in the second round. It’s a small fracture in the left forearm, and the team is not yet sure whether or not Saint Preux will require surgery.

The 33-year-old Saint Preux took the Jones fight on less than two weeks notice after Daniel Cormier was forced out due to injury. The decision loss was just his third defeat in the Octagon in ten appearances.

Penick’s Analysis: Jones caught some flack for not finishing the fight on Saturday, but he did significant damage and still handily beat a talented and dangerous fighter. Jones remains the best fighter in the world, and having a less-than-his-best victory doesn’t really change that at all. Saint Preux surviving as he did and doing what he was able to do during that fight is admirable, even more so with the injury he suffered, and the UFC will likely give him another feature fight when he returns.
