UFC Fight Night: Dolidze vs. Hernandez was this past weekend and
featured some exciting fights and a few finishes. Who won and who lost? Let’s get to the rundown.
UFC Fight Night: Dolidze vs. Hernandez
GOOD- Christian Leroy Duncan stops Eryk Anders
Duncan starts off with some nice strikes before poking Anders in the
eye. After a brief pause, they resume trading strikes for a little bit until Duncan kicks Anders low. They restart and Duncan hits him low again but the referee doesn’t notice it. Come on, this is ridiculous.
They continue fighting and they’re both hitting each other with good
strikes before Duncan crushes Anders with a spinning back elbow that
staggers Anders and follow-up punches seal the deal and force the
referee to jump in to stop the fight not quite four minutes into the first round.
Duncan improves to 12-2 while Anders falls to 17-9 with 1 No Contest.
Good win for Duncan, who can hopefully keep it cleaner next time.
GOOD- Miles Johns vs. Jean Matsumoto
They start off trading strikes, until Johns gets a takedown. Matsumoto
is up quickly and they resume trading strikes. Johns appears faster at
this point as the first round ends. The second round begins with
Matsumoto looking quicker, as he’s beating Johns to the punchbrepeatedly. Johns gets a few takedowns but he can’t do anything with
them, as Matsumoto is quickly back up both times and throwing strikes
at him. The third round starts with Matsumoto attacking with leg kicks so Johns returns fire. Both men are throwing and connecting with bombs
here as they continue beating each other until the fight ends. We go
to the judges to render their verdict.
Matsumoto wins the Split Decision to improve to 17-1 while Johns drops to 15-4 with 1 No Contest. Good win for Matsumoto.
GOOD- Andre Fili vs. Christian Rodriguez
They trade strikes throughout an active first round until Rodriguez gets a takedown with seconds to go in the round. The second round
begins with Fili landing a lot of powerful leg kicks that are doing damage. Both men are landing well but Fili is more active as the second round ends. The third round starts with more of the same,
though Fili also gets some good takedowns. Rodriguez shows good
toughness to take this beating and also hand out one of his own. The fight ends so we go to the judges to render their verdict.
Fili wins the Split Decision to improve to 25-12 with 1 No Contest while Rodriguez drops to 12-4. Good win for Fili.
GOOD- Iasmin Lucindo vs. Angela Hill
Lucindo connects with a few strikes before they scramble around and
Lucindo gets a takedown. Hill is immediately back up and they’re trading at short range. They fight in-close until the first round ends. The second round begins with immediate striking exchanges that
are coming from all angles. Lucindo seems to be getting the better of
these exchanges but Hill is very game and constantly firing back. The action is tense until the second round ends. The third round starts
with more heavy striking exchanges until the trade takedowns and spend
the rest of the fight on the mat. We go to the judges to render their verdict.
Lucindo wins the decision to improve to 18-6 while Hill drops to 18-15. Good win for Lucindo.
GOOD- Steve Erceg vs. Ode Osbourne
They trade strikes until Osbourne staggers Erceg with a powerful right
hand, forcing Erceg to try for a takedown and they spend the rest of
the first round on the mat. The second round begins with more of the same, just slower. Erceg gets a takedown in the third round and stays
on top until the fight ends. We go to the judges to render their verdict.
Erceg wins the decision to improve to 13-4 while Osbourne drops to
13-9 with 1 No Contest. Good win for Erceg.
GOOD- Anthony Hernandez submits Roman Dolidze
Hernandez controls the first round with some powerful striking. The second round begins with Hernandez getting a takedown. They’re both
quickly back up and trade for a bit before Hernandez gets another
takedown. Dolidze is doing some damage but Hernandez is connecting
with a lot more and doesn’t seem to be affected as much. The third
round starts with some heavy Hernandez strikes and a takedown.
Dolidze’s face is showing the effects of Hernandez’s strikes.
Hernandez is pulling away, as Dolidze is fading.
The fourth round opens with Dolidze being exhausted and not able to
offer much resistance to Hernandez’s attacks. Dolidze is tough, though, and won’t stop. He also won’t stop grabbing the fence, which
makes the referee finally deduct a point after numerous offences. It
doesn’t matter, though, as Dolidze gets kneed in the head and drops
down, allowing Hernandez to lock on a rear-naked choke that forces
Dolidze to tap a bit over halfway through the fourth round.
Hernandez improves to 15-2 with 1 No Contest and has won 8 straight
fights while Dolidze drops to 15-4 and has his 3 fight winning streak snapped. Good win for Hernandez.
