In the spirit of political news, the MMA world was gifted several important news stories just as the weekend was beginning.
Welterweight title fight booked
At last a welterweight title fight between champion Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington has been booked for UFC 245 on Dec. 14 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. (Originally reported by ESPN)
The UFC attempted to book various welterweight title fights for UFC 244 in November, before pivoting to the BMF bout between Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal.
Currently, UFC 245 is scheduled to also feature a men’s featherweight title fight between champion Max Holloway and Alexander Volkanovski, and a women’s bantamweight title between champion Amanda Nunes and Germaine de Randamie.
Cyborg’s Bellator debut scheduled
The LA Times is reporting that former UFC and Strikeforce champion Cris Cyborg will make her Bellator debut against featherweight champion Julia Budd on Jan. 25 at The Forum in Inglewood, California.
Cyborg announced her signing with Bellator earlier this month, after an acrimonious split with the UFC.
Julia Budd holds the distinction of being Bellator’s inaugural featherweight champion.
Holm withdrawals from Pennington fight.
Former women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm will withdraw from her upcoming fight at UFC 243 against Raquel Pennington, according to a report by ESPN.
The report states that Holm was forced to withdraw from the event due to an undisclosed injury.
