HYDEN BLOG: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly from Bellator 276 and UFC Fight Night: Santos vs. Ankalaev

By: Frank Hyden, MMATorch Senior Columnist

I’ve been sick these past few days so that’s the reason for the delay.
Bellator 276 and UFC Fight Night: Santos vs. Ankalaev were this past
weekend. Let’s get to the rundown.

Bellator 276
GOOD- Jay-Jay Wilson vs. Gadzhi Rabadanov
The first round was contested on the feet, with Wilson getting the
edge. The second round saw Rabadanov get a takedown and take the
round. The third round was more of the same, as Rabadanov got two
takedowns that sealed the decision victory for him. Rabadanov moves to
17-4-2 with the win as Wilson is given his first defeat and falls to
8-1. Good win for Rabadanov.

GOOD- Johnny Eblen vs. John Salter
Eblen got a takedown in the first round and just stayed on top to take
the round. Eblen got another takedown to win the second round as well.
Eblen took the third round as well with a takedown and got the
decision victory. Eblen remains undefeated at 11-0 after this win
while Salter drops to 18-6. Good win for Eblen.

GOOD- Phil Davis vs. Julius Anglickas
Davis had some nice strikes and got a takedown to win the first round.
The second and third rounds are repeats so Davis gets the decision
victory to improve to 24-6 while Anglickas falls to 10-3. Good win for
Davis.

GOOD- Adam Borics vs. Mads Burnell
These guys laid into each other with some really good striking in the
first round. That repeated in the second round with more great
striking exchanges. Burnell got dropped toward the end of the round.
They kept up the tremendous pace for the next three rounds, both men
showing great toughness and tenacity. They go all five rounds and
Borics wins the decision in a very exciting fight to move to 18-1 and
has won his last 4 fights while Burnell drops to 16-4. Good win for
Borics.

UFC Fight Night: Santos vs. Ankalaev
GOOD- Alex Pereira vs. Bruno Silva
They traded big strikes in the first round, with Silva getting the
better of it. More of the same in the second round, though it seemed
Pereira got the advantage that time. The third round was also full of
striking exchanges but there were also several huge blows that both
men were able to absorb. Pereira took the third round and got the
decision victory to move to 5-1 and has won his last 5 fights while
Silva drops to 22-7 and had won 7 fights in a row before this loss.
Good win for Pereira.

GOOD- Drew Dober stops Terence McKinney
McKinney got a couple takedowns early but Dober dropped him with a
knee and finished him with punches to get the stoppage a little bit
over three minutes into the first round to improve to 24-11 with 1 No
Contest while McKinney drops to 12-4. Good win for Dober.

GOOD- Khalil Rountree Jr. stops Karl Roberson
Roberson fought well in the first round but Rountree crushed him with
some big shots in the second round to get the stoppage and move to
10-5 with 1 No Contest while Roberson falls to 9-5. Good win for
Rountree.

GOOD- Alex Caceres vs. Sodiq Yusuff
Caceres started well but Yusuff punished him with repeated leg kicks.
They really affected Caceres to the point where you started wondering
if he’d be able to finish the fight. Credit to Caceres for his
toughness but Yusuff just did a little more and that got him the
decision victory. Yusuff improves to 12-2 with this win while Caceres
falls to 19-13 with 1 No Contest and has his 5 fight winning streak
stopped. Good win for Yusuff.

GOOD- Song Yadong stops Marlon Moraes
Song quickly drops Moraes. They trade a few more times before Song
starches him to get the win just over two minutes into the first
round. Song improves to 19-5-1 with 1 No Contest while Moraes drops to
23-10-1 and has lost 4 fights in a row and 5 of his last 6 fights.
Good win for Song.

BAD/GOOD- Magomed Ankalaev vs. Thago Santos
I really did not like this fight. Maybe it was the sickness or
something but I thought the fight was really boring. I understand you
have to do whatever you have to in order to get the win so I get it
but that doesn’t mean I’m going to like it. Ankalaev was awarded the
decision victory and improves to 17-1 and has won 8 fights in a row
while Santos falls to 22-10 and has lost 4 of his last 5 fights. Good
win for Ankalaev.

My new book is now out. It’s called Kingdom of Zarias: Undeath and
the Dewester Set
. It’s a fantasy epic that begins with the Summers
siblings but spreads out to encompass a large number of characters
across multiple stories as the world faces a threat from a vile
necromancer. There’s lots of action, magic, and monsters in the
Kingdom of Zarias. It’s like a tabletop game in novel form. It’s on
Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and many other places. If you’re interested, I
would greatly appreciate it if you would check it out and support me.
Here’s the link to my book- My Book Thank you very much,
