Now that Jorge Masvidal is the talk of the MMA world, he wants a shot at the title, or the biggest star in the sport.
Appearing on ESPN’s “The Dan LeBatard Show.” Masvidal laid out his future plans.
While Masvidal made it clear that he would like a shot at current welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, Masvidal’s focus was on Conor McGregor.
“I want McGregor. I want to break his face. I think that’s an easy paycheck. He’s got these cash symbols written all over his face for me. I just don’t see it going his way if I’m honest with you.” Masvidal told LeBatard.
Additionally, Masvidal was critical of McGregor’s willingness to submit.
“He backs down. He taps. I’ve never tapped in my whole entire career.”
Jorge Masvidal gets historical KO over Ben Askren
Given that Masvidal’s victory over Ben Askren at UFC 239 has made Masvidal an immediate source of attention, he stated that any fight he is a part of, is a big fight.
‘With me breaking the record and whose face I did it on, those things go into consideration. I think strike while the iron is hot. We’ve both got a hot name. Let’s do it, let’s just compete. If not, let me just fight the champion already.”
Masvidal indicated that he wants a shot at welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, but notes that the fight might not be realistic at this time.
Usman is likely out with an injury until much later in the year, and the upcoming fight between Colby Covington and Robbie Lawler may determine Usman’s next contender.
McGregor has been inactive since getting submitted by lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 230 in Oct. 2018. McGregor was subsequently suspended for six months for his role in the brawl that broke out after the fight.
