Frankie Edgar out of UFC 218

Frankie Edgar is out of his scheduled fight against Max Holloway at UFC 218 due to an undisclosed injury. Edgar was set to challenge Holloway for the UFC featherweight title on December 2. According to reports Edgar will not require surgery and should be able to return in twelve weeks. It is uncertain whether Holloway will remain on the UFC 218 card. Possible replacements include Cub Swanson and Jose Aldo.

Grocke’s POV: While the UFC 218 card is strong, this is a big blow. It’s the only championship fight on the card so hopefully the UFC can find someone to step in for Edgar on short notice. If I had my choice, I would rather see Jose Aldo get another opportunity.

Dominick Cruz out of UFC 219

Dominick Cruz is out of his scheduled fight against Jimmie Rivera at UFC 219 due a broken arm. Cruz was set to face Rivera in what could have possibly been a #1 contender fight with the winner getting the first shot at TJ Dillashaw. While it is still unclear whether or not Jimmie Rivera remains on the card, John Lineker has already said that he’d be ready to step in and face Rivera.

Grocke’s POV: And the hits keep on coming. More unfortunate news for the UFC coming on the heels of one of their most exciting PPVs in history. The promotion garnered some much needed attention after UFC 217 and it would have been nice to see them keep that momentum through the end of the year.
