Perhaps the most anticipated fight on next month’s UFC on Fox 20 event in Chicago is no longer happening, as Anthony “Rumble” Johnson has been forced out of his bout with Glover Teixeira due to an undisclosed injury.
MMAFighting.com was the first to report his removal.
The bout was expected to be a number one contender fight given recent successes for both fighters. Johnson kept his name in the elite mix with a January KO win over Ryan Bader, while Teixeira did the same to Rashad Evans in April. Both happened on Fox cards, making this July 23 event the perfect slot for the bout.
Teixeira now awaits a new opponent for the card’s co-main event at the United Center. That event will be headlined by the women’s bantamweight bout between Holly Holm and Valentina Shevchenko.
