Alistair Overeem capped off an enjoyable UFC Fight Night 87 event in spectacular fashion, taking out Andrei Arlovski with a great jumping front kick to left hook sequence that sent Arlovski crumbling to the ground.
The finish came just over a minute into the second round after a competitive opening frame, and gave Overeem his fourth straight win in the UFC. That’s his longest streak in the Octagon yet, and his best run since a 12-fight unbeaten streak from 2007-2011. After the win, the first on a new contract with the UFC, Overeem called for a Heavyweight Title shot in November at UFC 205 in New York City.
In other action on the card – the UFC’s first ever in the Netherlands – home country heavyweight Stefan Struve took out Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva in just 15 seconds with a beautiful combination into elbows in takedown defense, while fellow Dutch fighter Germaine de Randamie took out Anna Elmose in the first round.
Gunnar Nelson scored one of his best wins to date, dominating Albert Tumenov on the ground after taking some significant body damage in the first round. He ended the bout in the second round with a vicious jaw smashing rear naked choke, forcing the pained tap from Tumenov.
Nikita Krylov scored another stoppage win in the UFC on the main card as well, submitting Francimar Barroso in the second round, while Karolina Kowalkiewicz looked excellent in a decision win over Heather Jo Clark in a highly entertaining main card opener.
