UFC Fight Night 86 Bonuses: Derrick Lewis scores one of four $50K “Performance of the Night” awards

With no clear standout fights on the UFC Fight Night 86 card on Sunday, the UFC opted to give “Performance of the Night” bonuses to four fighters instead: Derrick Lewis, Alejandro Perez, Mairbek Taisumov, and Jared Cannonier.

Each fighter scored a first round finish over their respective opponent on the card, with Lewis’ coming highest on the card in the Zagreb, Croatia, card’s co-main event.

Lewis took out Gabriel Gonzaga in that fight, getting out of a bad early position after he got taken down, mounted, and back mounted. He escaped that spot, and with a massive right hand in the midst of a huge flurry to close out the round he put Gonzaga down and out.

Perez forced an upset Ian Entwistle to submit to punches when Entwistle couldn’t secure a leg lock, leaving him wide open to a brutal assault on the ground. Entwistle accused him of greasing early in the fight, but the fight went on regardless of the accusation; as he continued to escape the leg lock attempts, he took advantage of the superior position to deliver strike after strike after strike until Entwistle told the ref to stop it.

As for Taisumov and Cannonier, they took out Damir Hadzovic and Cyril Asker, respectively. Taisumov scored his fourth straight finish in that victory, while Cannonier bounced back from a loss to Shawn Jordan in his UFC debut.
