“Frankie Edgar is happy about this fight. Frankie will avenge his loss to Aldo and will kill two birds with one stone… After that, Conor will have nowhere to go. He’ll be trapped. He won’t have any more excuses… Be happy about this. Frankie is happy. It’s going to be a great night and a great fight.”

-Frankie Edgar’s manager Ali Abdelaziz talks to MMAJunkie.com with a reaction to the UFC booking Edgar in a rematch with Jose Aldo at UFC 200 for the Interim Featherweight Championship.

Penick’s Analysis: This is Edgar’s best opportunity to force the McGregor fight. He wanted his own shot at Aldo again before McGregor got the spot himself, and avenging that 2013 loss would make him without a doubt the best fighter in the division this side of the Irishman. Also, given the fact that he himself hasn’t been beaten by McGregor, it makes that title fight all the more intriguing when it eventually happens. If he loses a second time to Aldo, that’s a sign of the hierarchy in the division. He needs this win as much as he needs one over McGregor.
