Miesha Tate reiterates desire to be fighting champion, open to any opponent UFC wants to give her

Miesha Tate wants to be a fighting champ, and she’s making it more than clear she’s open to defend the title against anyone put in front of her.

In an interview with UFC Tonight on Fox Sports 1, Tate said she doesn’t want to wait out the proposed Ronda Rousey fight, and will face anyone the UFC is willing to book against her.

“What I’ve decided as a champ, I can have the mentality to fight anyone at any time,” Tate said. “There are so many top contenders now – Ronda, Holly, Amanda, Julianna Pena, they’re all solid competition. It’s not my job as a champ to pick a fight, it’s to fight whoever they put in front of me. I’d like to stay active as a champion and not wait until November. I’d like to defend the belt and continue to prove why I’m the best in the world.”

Penick’s Analysis: I think we’ll wind up seeing Tate fight around UFC 200 if not at that event. Holm’s the likeliest opponent if that happens, because it still keeps the Rousey fight in play for the winner come November. Regardless, she’s doing exactly what Holm did, and is telling the UFC in no uncertain terms that she’s not waiting if she has any say in the matter.
