John Dodson’s return to bantamweight finally has a date and an opponent, with the two-time UFC Flyweight Title challenger and Ultimate Fighter winner revealing on Twitter that he’s facing Manvel Gamburyan at UFC on Fox 19 this April.
The 31-year-old Dodson is 6-2 through eight UFC appearances, with both losses coming against Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson in fights for that 125 lb. title. He’s stopped four opponents in those six victories, including a win in his UFC debut over eventual Bantamweight Champion T.J. Dillashaw in the TUF 14 Finale.
The 34-year-old Gamburyan has his experience with the Ultimate Fighter as well, having competed on season five and coached alongside Ronda Rousey during the 18th season. The 17-year-vet is in his second stint in the UFC, and is 4-3 with one no contest during the most recent stretch, including victories in two straight fights. He most recently took out Scott Jorgensen by decision in July of last year.
UFC on Fox 19 hits Tampa, Fla., on April 16, headlined by the five-round lightweight contender bout between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson.
