Daniel Cormier’s latest comments about his impending rematch with Jon Jones have drawn a reaction, as Jones took to Twitter to give some thoughts of his own.
Cormier said this week that he didn’t fight his best against Jones the first time around, and believes he’s destined to beat Jones in the rematch. That’s something Jones simply finds amusing.
Now he lost because he underestimated me? #Scratchingmyhead https://t.co/ERte2wU8RI

It’s just funny to hear the stuff he’s trying to convince himself. https://t.co/v2yENVRBZv

Yes, he’s an excuse maker. It’s just funny to hear him say this shit out loud https://t.co/6POAx5YTC8

I bet it was his “destiny” to beat Cael Sanderson all eight times he lost. Interested to hear his excuse for those matches

Penick’s Analysis: Jones is coming back focused and intending to be better than he was before. Does Cormier have it in him to best that? It’s hard to see that being the case given what we know of what Jones was doing in the lead up into that fight. If Cormier’s better in that rematch than in the first fight, Jones should be expected to be as well. There’s simply no objective reason to believe Cormier is the better fighter with how that fight went, because Jones proved otherwise last January, and will set out to do the same whenever this fight happens.
