Khabib Nurmagomedov is out of a fight with Tony Ferguson at The Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale, having suffered yet another injury in training, according to a report from MMAFighting.com.
The undefeated Dagestani lightweight has been out of action since defeating now-current UFC Champion Rafael dos Anjos in April of last year. He suffered a knee injury that took him out of a planned fight with Donald Cerrone at UFC 178 last September, then another that took him out of that same matchup for UFC 187 in May. Cerrone is now slated to fight dos Anjos for that belt in the final UFC main event of 2015 at UFC on Fox 17 in Orlando.
As for Ferguson, he’ll remain on the Dec. 11 card in Las Vegas, as the report states the UFC is targeting Edson Barboza as the replacement opponent. Barboza has won three of four fights in the division, most recently defeating Paul Felder at UFC on Fox 16 in Chicago this July. Ferguson himself is out for his seventh straight win in the division, having most recently defeated Josh Thomson in July.
The Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale airs live on Fox Sports 1, headlined by the featherweight matchup between Frankie Edgar and Chad Mendes.
Injuries have killed him. He could have been a beast. I was rooting for him. He hasn’t fought in like two years.
