In a better, more complete, and more convincing performance than in their last meeting five years ago, Dominick Cruz defeated Urijah Faber at UFC 199 to retain the UFC Bantamweight Championship.

The opening round was quite competitive, with Faber connecting on several combinations, and both fighters exchanging positions on the ground and on the cage in some exciting scrambles. The fight turned to Cruz for the remainder early in the second, as he dropped Faber with a left hand, a blow which seemed to shake Faber’s confidence and aggression throughout the rest of the bout.

Cruz continued to utilize his superior speed and movement to frustrate Faber throughout much of the fight, though Faber himself failed to find it in him to attack all that often. Instead, Cruz was the one picking his spots, and he did more damage to Faber this time around in each of the final four rounds than he did in their last meeting. It was one of Cruz’s better overall performances, and Faber just didn’t have an answer after he got rocked.

Cruz extends his winning streak to 13 fights, while Faber has lost his seventh straight fight with a title on the line.
