Bellator MMA is heading back to San Jose, announcing on Thursday that Josh Thomson will meet Pablo Villaseca in the main event of Bellator 147 on Dec. 4.
The organization hit the city in September for their big “Dynamite 1” event, and returns with a hometown name in Thomson. Additionally, a featherweight bout between Georgi Karakhanyan and Daniel Weichel is set for the card.
Thomson, a former champion in Strikeforce, signed with Bellator late this summer after fighting out his UFC contract. He snapped a three-fight losing skid in his Bellator debut on the “Dynamite 1” card, submitting Mike Bronzoulis in the third round. He now meets the 10-1 Villaseca, a 28-year-old Chilean fighter whose sole career loss came in his only previous Bellator appearance. That was a split decision loss in June at Bellator 139, but he returns after picking up a win outside of Bellator in September.
Karakhanyan makes a quicker than expected return after suffering a knee injury earlier this year. That took him out of a fight with Champ Patricio “Pitbull” Freire in June, with Weichel then stepping in for that fight. Weichel was knocked out in the second round of that bout, and makes his return to action in this matchup on Spike.
