John Lineker didn’t wind up getting re-booked against Cody Garbrandt after Dengue fever took him out of their planned fight last month, but he’s now got his next fight on the docket.
The UFC announced Wednesday that Lineker will take on Rob Font at UFC 198 in Brazil this May.
The 26-year-old Brazilian would have been on a fast track to a shot at the UFC Flyweight Championship, but his continued inability to make weight forced a move up to 135 lbs. He made a highly exciting and successful debut in the division in September, taking out Francisco Rivera in a wild two minute fight at UFC 191.
As for Font, the 28-year-old is 2-0 thus far in the UFC, riding an 11-fight winning streak into his third appearance. He was out of action for 18 months after his KO win over George Roop in his UFC debut, but looked just as strong in his January UFC Fight Night 81 win over Joey Gomez.
UFC 198 hits the Arena da Baixada in Curitiba on May 14, headlined by the UFC Heavyweight Championship bout between Fabricio Werdum and Stipe Miocic.
