Lightweight Daron Cruickshank announces UFC release after 13-fight run; two others out as well

After 13 fights in the UFC, Daron Cruickshank’s run in the Octagon has come to an end.

The Ultimate Fighter Live vet revealed his release on Twitter Tuesday afternoon.

I’ve officially been released. It’s been a pleasure and privilege to fight for the UFC. I am now currently looking for a fight elsewhere.

The 30-year-old had his ups and downs in the organization, posting an even 6-6 mark with one no contest. Those losses came mostly in the back half of his almost four year run, including three straight in the last year, all by submission.

“The Detroit Superstar” entered the UFC out of the 15th season of TUF, the experimental – and sole – live season of the series. He went 5-2 in his first two years in the Octagon, scoring three highlight reel finishes over Henry Martinez, Mike Rio, and Erik Koch. However, things took a turn in the summer of 2014, beginning with a decision loss to Jorge Masvidal. He bounced back with a win over Anthony Njokuani by decision, but after an eye poke ended his fight with K.J. Noons prematurely, he returned to submission defeats against Beneil Dariush, James Krause, and most recently Paul Felder last month at UFC Fight Night 81.

Felder joins Matt Dwyer in announcing their release this week, with Dwyer out after a 1-3 mark. Further, BloodyElbow.com reports that Gasan Umalatov is also on his way out after a 1-3 mark of his own.
