It might be safe to say Ronda Rousey’s star hasn’t taken too big of a hit since her head kick KO loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193 last November. The now-former champion will be fulfilling some movie obligations early this year, but she’s adding another first on January 23: hosting Saturday Night Live.

The official SNL Twitter account revealed news of the gig on Tuesday:

Rousey’s acting to this point has been minimal, with her film roles to date being more about physicality and charisma than acting chops, but it’s yet another endeavor to which she’s attempting to branch out.

Penick’s Analysis: I’m not sure anyone would have expected this kind of gig right now, but it’s certainly a gutsy move for her. This will be her first real public appearance since the loss, and it will likely involve some humbling humor at her expense, at least in some type of manner. But if she can show some humility in the face of defeat as she tries to rebuild toward a rematch, that could be a good thing. I’d have low expectations for her effort, but give her credit for attempting a gig like this.
