MVP (Most Valuable Promotions) and PFL have announced a merger. The new company will be called MVP MMA and will combine boxing and MMA under one banner.
The new company will be led by Co-Founders and Board Members Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian, with John Martin serving as CEO and Board Member.
This is certainly interesting and I definitely welcome any challengers in a market. Competition brings the best out of everyone and everything so it’s exciting on that front.
We’ll have to wait to see how impactful this is in the long run but it’s promising.

PFL New York: Nurmagomedov vs. Colgan and UFC Fight Night: Medic vs. Rodriguez were this past weekend and featured a lot of exciting fights. Who won and who lost? Let’s get to the rundown.
PFL New York: Nurmagomedov vs. Colgan
GOOD- Moustapha Diakhate stops Darryl King Walker
Diakhate lands a hard jab early before they start brawling. Diakhate gets a takedown but Walker’s right back up. Diakhate gets a slam takedown and starts using his ground-and-pound to beat on Walker. Eventually the referee has to jump in to stop the fight about halfway through the first round.
Diakhate improves to 6-0-1 while Walker drops to 2-1. Good win for Diakhate.
GOOD- Amru Magomedov stops Angel Alvarez
They’re trading strikes early, with Magomedov using a lot of kicks. They keep striking, with Alvarez limping more and more as the round wears on. The second round begins with Magomedov nailing Alvarez with more leg kicks, knocking him down with the last one. Magomedov jumps on top and starts unleashing his ground-and-pound until the referee is forced to jump in to stop the fight about four and a half minutes into the second round.
Magomedov improves to a perfect 10-0 while Alvarez drops to 11-3 and has his 5 fight winning streak snapped. Good win for Magomedov.
GOOD- Dakota Ditcheva vs. Denise Kielholtz
Ditcheva comes out firing away, with Kielholtz returning in kind. They keep trading strikes, sometimes in a clinch, until the first round ends. The second round begins with more striking in the clinch until Kielholtz lands a throw. Ditcheva is quickly back to her feet and they exchange more strikes until Ditcheva gets a trip takedown and things slow as both women look for an opening. The third round starts with more striking exchanges. Kielholtz is fighting back but Ditcheva is too fast and strong. The fight ends so we go to the judges to render their verdict.
Ditcheva wins the decision to improve to a perfect 16-0 while Kielholtz drops to 9-6. Good win for Ditcheva.
GOOD- Usman Nurmagomedov stops Archie Colgan
Nurmagomedov was looking to defend his PFL Lightweight Championship for the second time here.
Nurmagomedov is landing some good leg kicks early. More kicks from the champion, who’s also landing good punches. A big head kick from Nurmagomedov drops Colgan, who starts to get up but is met with a huge uppercut that drops him again. Nurmagomedov rains down punches in bunches to force the referee to jump in to stop the fight a bit over three and a half minutes into the first round.
Nurmagomedov improves to 22-0 with 1 No Contest and has won 5 straight fights while Colgan is handed his first loss and drops to 13-1. Good win for Nurmagomedov.
UFC Fight Night: Medic vs. Rodriguez
GOOD- Noah Gugnon submits Milos Janicic
A Gugnon leg kick badly hurts Janicic, who falls to his back. Gugnon jumps on him, gets into better position before transitioning to the back, and locks in a rear-naked choke that gets the submission finish not quite a minute and a half into the first round. Very nice.
Gugnon improves to 10-2 and has won 6 straight fights while Janicic drops to 19-4 and has his 8 fight winning streak snapped. Good win for Gugnon.
GOOD- Gilbert Urbina stops Vlasto Cepo
Cepo hurts Urbina with an overhand right but Urbina drops Cepo with a stiff jab then follows him to the ground and unleashes a torrent of punches and elbows until the referee is forced to jump in to stop the fight just over a minute into the first round. Wow.
Urbina improves to 8-4 while Cepo drops to 14-4. Good win for Urbina.
GOOD- Robert Valentin submits Dusko Todorovic
They go to the mat early, with Valentin lifting Todorovic off the ground with a guillotine. Todorovic fights to his feet and gets a takedown of his own. They scramble, with both men fighting for position, and Valentin catches Todorovic by the neck with another guillotine and gets the tap a bit over four minutes into the first round.
Valentin improves to 12-6 with 1 No Contest while Todorovic drops to 13-7. Good win for Valentin.
GOOD- Aleksandar Rakic vs. Marcin Tybura
Rakic uses his speed advantage early as he attacks Tybura from multiple angles. Tybura answers with some good strikes of his own and the first round ends. The second round begins with Rakic again using his speed advantage. Tybura is slowing down as he takes damage. Big punch by Tybura but Rakic is just too fast and active. The third round starts with Rakic using the clinch a lot. He’s getting off some strikes but it’s not the most exciting thing to watch. It’s certainly effective, though. The fight ends so we go to the judges to render their verdict.
Rakic wins the decision to improve to 15-6 and snap his 4 fight losing streak while Tybura drops to 27-12 and has lost 3 straight fights. Good win for Rakic.
GOOD- Navajo Stirling stops Jan Blachowicz
Stirling with some kicks early before sending Blachowicz flying with a good combination. Stirling pounces on him and drops elbows and punches until the referee jumps in to stop the fight just about three minutes into the first round.
Stirling improves to a perfect 11-0 while Blachowicz drops to 29-12-2. Good win for Stirling.
GOOD- Uros Medic stops Daniel Rodriguez
Medic crushes Rodriguez with a smooth combination that drops him, then unleashes punches in bunches until the referee jumps in to stop the fight thirty seconds into the first round. Wow.
Medic improves to 14-3 and has won 4 straight fights while Rodriguez drops to 20-6 and has his 3 fight winning streak snapped. Good win for Medic.
