UFC Fight Night: Vieira vs. Tate was yesterday. Let’s get to the rundown.
UFC Fight Night: Vieira vs. Tate
GOOD- Davey Grant vs. Adrian Yanez
Grant was throwing and landing a lot of kicks in the first round.
Yanez worked his counter-punches and did some damage. The second round
saw Grant continue throwing kicks, especially leg kicks. Yanez fought
back but I think Grant took that round. Yanez got more aggressive in
the third round, though Grant fought hard as well. Yanez won the Split
Decision, his striking was just the tiniest bit more precise but this
was a real battle. This was a close fight but I think Yanez was the
clear winner. Grant falls to 13-6 while Yanez improves to 15-3 and has
won eight fights in a row. Good win for Yanez.
GOOD- Rani Yahya vs. Kyung Ho Kang
Yahya tried to get the fight to the ground every chance he got. Kang
dropped Yahya in the first round with a good strike. In the second
round Yahya fired back with a takedown. He then started working his
ground-and-pound though there wasn’t a lot of damage done. He stayed
on top of him most of the round. Kang was doing some damage in the
third round but got taken down again. Yahya again worked some
ground-and-pound but didn’t do much damage. He was still on top of him
most of the round, though, and got the decision victory for it. Kang
drops to 17-9 with 1 No Contest while Yahya moves to 28-10-1 with 1 No
Contest. Good win for Yahya.
GOOD- Taila Santos submits Joanne Wood
They traded punches and kicks early. Santos then dropped Wood with a
big overhand right. Wood got back to her feet but got dropped again
and Santos started going for the submission. She locked in a
rear-naked choke and got the tap for the submission victory with
eleven seconds to go in the first round. Wood falls to 15-7 while
Santos improves to 19-1 and has won four fights in a row. Good win for
Santos.
GOOD/BAD- Sean Brady vs. Michael Chiesa
Chiesa poked Brady in the eyes twice in the first round. Take a point
and tell him one more and it’s an automatic disqualification. Come on
now. Brady got a takedown off an attempted Chiesa kick but not much
else happened. Chiesa had a few nice strikes in the second round but
Brady got another takedown and again, not much happened afterward.
There was a bit more action in the third round but that’s not saying
much. Chiesa had some solid strikes but Brady got another takedown.
Chiesa was able to get control at the end of the fight and start
pounding away at Brady but the fight ended. Chiesa falls to 18-6 while
Brady improves to a perfect 15-0. This wasn’t exciting by any means
but it was effective. Good win for Brady.
GOOD- Ketlen Vieira vs. Miesha Tate
They traded some big strikes early in the first round. That continued
as they both did some damage to the other. The second round saw more
heavy trading from them. These rounds are close but I’m leaning
towards Tate, I think. Vieira slowed down in the third, maybe the
eyepoke from Tate was affecting her? That continued into the fourth
round as Tate got a takedown. However, towards the latter part of the
fourth round Vieira started firing away and did some nice damage.
Vieira really turned it on in the fifth round, striking Tate from
multiple angles and bloodying her nose. It wasn’t enough to finish her
but Vieira did get the decision victory from the judges. It was close
and I lean more towards Tate taking the first three rounds but maybe I
missed something? I don’t know, it was really close. Tate falls to
19-8 while Vieira improves to 12-2. Good win for Vieira.
My book is on Amazon. It’s called Small Town Crime Cabal.
It’s about a brother and sister who operate a drug and gambling ring
in their small hometown. They want more, though, and hope to expand
beyond the limits of where they grew up. That comes with a price,
though, and the question becomes- are they willing to pay the price?
This is the first in my Brotherhood of the Streets series. It’s on
Kindle Unlimited right now or you can buy it in e-book or paperback
form. If you’re interested, I would greatly appreciate it if you would
check it out and support me. Here’s the link to my book on Amazon- My Book I’ve also
written a sci-fi book called Forever Man, the link is Forever Man: The
