UFC San Antonio was this past weekend. Let’s get right to the rundown.
UFC San Antonio
GOOD- Andrei Arlovski vs. Ben Rothwell
Arlovski landed a lot of shots throughout this fight. Rothwell scored with some good punches during this fight as well, but Arlovski landed a lot more. That’s what gave him the decision victory here. In an extremely fluid heavyweight division, it wouldn’t be the craziest thing to see Arlovski get a title shot. It’s not likely, of course, but just about anything is possible in this division. Good win for Arlovski.
BAD- Alexander Hernandez vs. Francisco Trinaldo
There was some decent action in this fight, but it just seemed like a sparring match. Hernandez won the decision in a fight that will be forgotten about as soon as the next fight starts.
GOOD- Dan Hooker stops James Vick
Hooker plastered Vick with a powerful left hand to end the fight about halfway through the first round. Good win for Hooker as he brings some excitement to the evening.
GOOD/BAD- Greg Hardy stops Juan Adams
Hardy got the stoppage not quite thirty seconds into the first round. That’s the GOOD. The BAD comes from this being a squash match.
I’m already sick of seeing Hardy fight guys you’ve never heard of before and will never hear from again. I’m not saying to throw him in there against Daniel Cormier or Stipe Miocic, but at least match him against a top 10 guy or something.
I don’t mean to be so harsh towards Adams, who should be proud of what he’s been able to accomplish in MMA, but there are levels to any sport.
Adams is not on Hardy’s level; and Hardy hasn’t fought anyone at his level or higher.
How about Hardy fighting either Andrei Arlovski or Ben Rothwell? Either of those fights would be way more interesting and tell us much more about Hardy than what’s currently happening.
GOOD- Walt Harris stops Aleksei Oleinik
Harris hit a jumping knee and a left hand to end the fight in twelve seconds. Bigtime win for Harris.
Here’s another guy you could put Greg Hardy against, though Harris seems to getting better and better and is likely on a different level from Hardy. However, who knows what could happen? Good win for Harris.
GOOD- Rafael dos Anjos vs. Leon Edwards
Edwards fought wonderfully here, landing lots of strikes and getting some good takedowns. I thought the pressure from RDA would give Edwards problems, but he was more than up to the task. He stifled and cut RDA, sapping the life from him with a performance amongst the best he’s ever had.
This was a strong win and statement from him, who’s now won eight fights in a row. Good stuff from Edwards as he continues rising up the ranks at welterweight.
