-Guido Cannetti def. Hugo Viana via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
-Vitor Miranda def. Clint Hester via TKO at 2:38 of the second round
Note: Dominant work from Miranda. The finish was kicked off by a knee as Hester shot in, then he bullied him to the ground and started unleashing strikes. He caught Hester in a gift-wrap position and unloaded punches until the fight was stopped.

-Iuri Alcantara def. Leandro Issa via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-27)
Note: Alcantara allowed himself to get caught in a grappling game far too often, but he came on strong in the striking department in the second and third. He probably could have finished it, but he knocked Issa around and knocked him down a few times as well in the final ten minutes, finishing the fight strong.
-Warlley Alves def. Nordine Taleb via submission (guillotine choke) at 4:11 of the second round
Note: Alves is fun to watch. He’s extremely athletic, and has a good combination of striking and grappling overall. He utilized it to great effect in this one, and got a nice guillotine late in the second.
-Patrick Cummins def. Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante via TKO at :45 of the third round
Note: Such a brutal, bloody fight. Cavalcante landed a ton of big strikes in the first two rounds, but was exhausted as the third began. Cummins scored a takedown, and threw down elbow after elbow after elbow to force the stoppage. Both looked like hell afterward.
-Demian Maia def. Neil Magny via submission (rear naked choke) at 2:52 of the second round
Note: Fantastic performance from Demian Maia to bring an end to Magny’s seven-fight winning streak. He dominated from the outset, getting Magny to the ground and just working him for the better part of the eight-minute fight.
=====Pay-Per-View Main Card=====
Goldberg and Rogan open up the broadcast with a rundown of what’s to come tonight on the main card, and it’s quickly time to bring out our first fight of the night. It’s an important one.
FIGHT ONE: CLAUDIA GADELHA VS. JESSICA AGUILAR (WOMEN’S STRAWWEIGHT)
ROUND ONE: Both Aguilar and Gadelha came out firing, trading strikes in the center of the cage. Gadelha tossed out a few jabs. She set up a solid combination, but Aguilar blocked several strikes. Aguilar got in a solid counter. Aguilar landed a solid leg kick. Gadelha landed a nice combination. She countered a leg kick with a right hand. Gadelha landed a hard kick to the body. Gadelha continued to land the better strikes in their exchanges. Gadelha stayed aggressive and tried to back her up. She continued landing strikes as Aguilar started slowing down in her output. Aguilar got in a couple hard leg kicks, but got busted open. Gadelha got Aguilar to the ground and took her back. She landed some strikes and tried to attack late.
Penick’s Scorecard: 10-9 Gadelha. Very good round for Gadelha. Controlled the striking, controlled the pace, took Aguilar’s back; all going the Brazilian’s way through five minutes.
ROUND TWO: Gadelha landed a big left hook to open up. She got in a big combination and rocked Aguilar with a right hand. Aguilar tried to recover as she got followed to the cage, and slowed it down in a clinch. Aguilar got in a knee. Gadelha got a body lock on and slammed her down. Aguilar worked her way back up and they jockeyed for position on the cage. Gadelha turned her around and landed a big knee to the body. Gadelha landed a nice jab after separating to reset. She continued working the jab and Aguilar’s face was a bloody mess. Gadelha got another kick in. They clinched and traded knees. Gadelha kept beating Aguilar to the punch. Aguilar finally got in a couple of combinations, but it was far from the types of strikes Gadelha was landing. Gadelha landed a nice uppercut. She opened another cut on Aguilar’s face. Aguilar landed another leg kick. Gadelha shot in late and scored a big takedown just before the horn.
Penick’s Scorecard: 10-9 Gadelha. She’s dominating the striking exchanges. Really excellent performance from Gadelha right now.
ROUND THREE: Aguilar got in some heavy strikes to start off. She’s in desperation mode. She landed a leg kick and another combination. Gadelha landed a nice combination. Gadelha landed a big right hand and started pressing Aguilar back. Aguilar grabbed a leg and tried for a takedown, but got stuffed. Gadelha landed another huge right hand. Aguilar got in a few strikes but ate some counters. Gadelha got in a hard kick to the body. They traded punches. Aguilar landed an uppercut. They traded punches again, with Gadelha again getting in a harder exchange. Gadelha landed another combination. Aguilar was sprinkling in the leg kicks, but Gadelha was still doing a lot more overall. Aguilar got in a nice combination late. Gadelha landed a hard jab. Gadelha shot in and scored a takedown with 30 seconds left. Aguilar tried to attack off her back, then rolled to her knees. Gadelha ended the fight on Aguilar’s back.
Penick’s Scorecard: 10-9 Gadelha. Aguilar didn’t go away quietly, but this was Gadelha’s fight start to finish.
WINNER: Gadelha via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
STAR RATING: (***-) Really, really good performance from Gadelha. Strong fight, and that rematch between Gadelha and Jedrzejczyk should be fantastic.
-Gadelha addressed Dana White and Joanna Jedrzejczyk in English (perhaps surprisingly much clearer than most of her countrymen deliver in the UFC) and said she’s the best strawweight in the world and she’s “here to kick ass.”
FIGHT TWO: ANTONIO “BIGFOOT” SILVA VS. SOA PALELEI (HEAVYWEIGHT)
ROUND ONE: Bigfoot landed a big knee early as Palelei shot in for a takedown. Palelei stayed on the takedown attempt, but Bigfoot had good balance and landed some strikes with his back on the cage, stuffing the takedown. Palelei finally backed out. He landed a couple of jabs as Silva plodded ahead. He shot in but got easily stuffed. Bigfoot barely missed a front kick to the face. Palelei landed a couple of hard jabs. Bigfoot landed an uppercut and tried to stalk. He landed a knee and clinched at the cage. They traded short strikes but things slowed down. Bigfoot looked for a takedown of his own, but couldn’t get it. Palelei then pulled off a throw into half guard. Palelei had an arm trapped and landed a few strikes. Silva tried to escape out but ate a few hard elbows. Palelei landed some big strikes as Silva tried to improve his position. Palelei landed more from the top. Silva tried to sweep from the bottom, but was kept on the ground. Palelei ended the round throwing strikes from the top.
Penick’s Scorecard: 10-9 Palelei. Better round from Silva than he’s had in his last couple of fights, but he took a bunch of damage in that final minute on the ground.
ROUND TWO: Bigfoot landed a big uppercut early and backed Palelei to the cage. He landed a knee and some elbows. Palelei was just covering up, and Bigfoot dropped him with a flurry. A few more strikes on the ground ended it for Silva’s first win since February of 2013.
WINNER: Bigfoot via TKO at :41 of the second round
STAR RATING: (**) Great finish from Bigfoot after a rough run. He looked much, much better than he did in his last two fights.
FIGHT THREE: ANTONIO RODRIGO NOGUEIRA VS. STEFAN STRUVE (HEAVYWEIGHT)
ROUND ONE: Nogueira landed a hard left hook early as he closed distance and put Struve on the cage. Nogueira went for a takedown off the clinch but Struve held it off. Nogueira kept on the clinch for a long time, then finally dropped for a single leg. Struve held it off again, then turned Nogueira around. Struve separated and rocked Nogueira with a right hand. Nogueira clinched up to slow it down again. Struve separated again. He rocked Nogueira with the right hand again, but Nogueira again clinched and tried to slow it down. Nogueira’s in trouble at this point. He went for the takedown and nearly had Struve down, but Struve got to his feet. Nogueira ducked under a strike. Struve landed a knee in a Thai clinch. Nogueira landed a couple of strikes. Struve landed a hard leg kick to the thigh. Nogueira landed a few strikes in combination and drove Struve to the cage. They separated again and Nogueira landed a few strikes in combination. Struve tossed out a few kicks. Nogueira landed a hard right hand. Nogueira connected to the body. Nogueira drove Struve back in another clinch, then landed a few strikes. Struve pressed in with a hard leg kick. He landed a left just before the horn.
Penick’s Scorecard: 10-10. Struve did more damage overall, but Nogueira controlled a bunch of the round and did damage himself. Coin flip on that round as neither earned much more than the other.
ROUND TWO: Struve opened with a hard leg kick. Nogueira tried to walk him back to the cage. He landed a couple of strikes before clinching up. The crowd booed some of the clinching. Nogueira snuck behind Struve standing and dragged him down. He got one hook in. Struve turned into the mount, but nicely escaped and got back to his feet. He landed some jabs as Nogueira tried to walk him down. HE landed a nice knee. He got an uppercut in. Struve is connecting more. He landed another jab. Nogueira went for another takedown. Struve landed a hard kick to the body. He landed a nice straight punch. Nogueira briefly clinched. He pressed Struve back again and shot for the single leg. Struve stuffed it and landed an uppercut. Nogueira kept trying to move forward, but Struve rocked him with kicks and then a couple of jabs. Struve really piling on. Nogueira landed a hook to the body. Nogueira barely avoided a few hard strikes. Struve landed a nice jab-leg kick combo. He got in a knee to the body. Struve landed a hard right hand. Nogueira clinched to slow things down. Struve landed a big knee to the body at the horn.
Penick’s Scorecard: 10-9 Struve. He’s doing a lot of damage at this point. Kind of surprising Nogueira’s still in it.
ROUND THREE: Struve landed a couple of kicks early as Nogueira tried to move in. Nogueira got in a couple of strikes. He shot in and managed to briefly get Struve down, but Struve got right back to his feet and separated. He tossed out more kicks and got in with an uppercut. Nogueira landed a right hand. Nogueira tried to be the aggressor, but Struve continued landing several strikes on the outside as he circled around. Nogueira tried to get in with a couple of strikes but his progress was impeded by leg kicks. They clinched briefly. Struve landed a head kick but Nogueira walked through it. He ate another strike and then clinched. He went for the single leg, but again couldn’t get Struve down. Struve circled out and separated. Nogueira landed a right hand off a leg kick. Struve landed a hard right with a left behind it. He rocked Nogueira with a couple of jabs. Nogueira pawed out a couple of strikes. Struve landed a great combination ending in a leg kick. He landed another. Nogueira clinched. Struve came forward with another big combination to end the round.
Penick’s Scorecard: 10-9 Struve. Nogueira looked beyond his age; slow, plodding, and ineffective. Struve utilized his reach much better than in recent fights, and got more confident as it went on. Needed win.
WINNER: Struve via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
STAR RATING: (**) Kind of a sad fight. Nogueira’s just far too tough for his own good, and it’s not comfortable to watch him take the type of damage he’s been taking as of late.
FIGHT FOUR: DILENO LOPES VS. REGINALDO VIEIRA (TUF BRAZIL 4 BANTAMWEIGHT FINALS)
ROUND ONE: Big flurry early with Vieira getting in a few solid strikes in the exchange. Things got a bit tentative after that opening salvo. He connected on a hard right hand. Lopes shot in quickly and Vieira tried to lock on a choke. Lopes got loose in side control, then looked for one of his own. Vieira got free himself and they stood in the clinch. Vieira landed a big knee and they started winging strikes at each other. Lopes dropped him with a right hand and went for a guillotine choke again. He lost it again and may have gassed his arms. Vieira landed strikes on the way up, but Lopes kept on the clinch. He landed a short knee. Vieira looked for a guillotine but gave it up and they separated. Vieira landed a few strikes as he had Lopes on the cage. He landed a hard kick to the body. He got in a combination. He rocked Lopes on the cage. Lopes landed a left. Lopes was cut open badly.
Penick’s Scorecard: 10-9 Vieira? Close round, lots of offense from both, but Vieira did more damage overall.
ROUND TWO: Lopes landed a leg kick early. Vieira landed a strike. Lopes barely missed on a quick flurry. They traded punches. They traded punches. Lopes landed a kick to the body. Lopes landed a left to the body. Both guys slowed down noticeably. Vieira landed a right. Lopes landed a hard kick to the body. He walked Vieira down and landed a flurry of strikes. He landed another combination. Lopes ducked down and scored a single leg takedown with just under a minute left. They were stood up due to inactivity.
Penick’s Scorecard: 10-9 Lopes. Did more, though both have slowed considerably in this one.
ROUND THREE: Lopes landed an early combination off an inside kick. Lopes landed several strikes as he pressed in. They both slowed down and the crowd booed. Lopes landed a left hand as he rushed in. He landed another. He ducked under a strike and scored a takedown. Vieira tried to get up and Lopes locked on a guillotine choke. Vieira appeared to do a quick tap, but it was missed and he kept fighting it. Vieira was bleeding badly from his head and Lopes lost the choke. Lopes landed elbows from the bottom while Vieira tried to throw hammerfists from the top. They continued trading strikes, with Vieira getting in some big strikes late from the top. Big finish from Vieira that could sway judges.
Penick’s Scorecard: 10-9 Lopes. Vieira finished strong, but I think Lopes’ takedown, the close guillotine choke, and the damage he also did give him the edge.
WINNER: Vieira via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27)
STAR RATING: (**) Sloppy, entertaining in spots, don’t understand two scores of 30-27 in Vieira’s favor.
-On a card with seven fights, at midnight ET with three fights to go, they throw to an extended preview of Demetrious Johnson and John Dodson at UFC 191. Ugh.
FIGHT FIVE: GLAICO FRANCA VS. FERNANDO BRUNO (TUF BRAZIL 4 LIGHTWEIGHT FINAL)
ROUND ONE: Franca checked a kick and landed a hard one of his own. Bruno threw wildly from the outside. They almost immediately slowed from there. Bruno rushed in, but got taken down. He scrambled out and up to his feet, though. Bruno then scored a takedown of his own, but Franca popped back up. They battled in the clinch for a bit, then Franca scored a takedown. Bruno got to his feet and got kneed. Franca tried to take his back. He continued trying to get into position, and tried to drag Bruno down. Bruno avoided anything serious before the horn.
Penick’s Scorecard: 10-9 Franca. This is a bad fight.
ROUND TWO: Franca opened with some kicks, but things got slowed down quick in the clinch. They jockeyed for position, but neither did much offensively. Franca scored a brief takedown, then tried to take his back, but wound up on his back with Bruno in his guard. The crowd booed. They eventually got back to their feet. Bruno went for a throw, but Franca took his back in a scramble. He had a choke but let it go. Bruno tried to get back to his feet. He fought off the choke. Franca went for it again late but lost it. Bruno defended to the horn.
Penick’s Scorecard: 10-9 Franca. This fight is garbage and is killing the mood in the building (and for those watching late at home)
ROUND THREE: Bruno came out knowing he’s down on the scorecards. But then he quickly clinched. He eventually scored a takedown and took Franca’s back. He went for a choke, lost it, and Franca took his back in a scramble. They wound up back on their feet, and Franca landed an accidental low blow. Franca landed a knee as they restarted. Franca missed a head kick. He missed a winging strike and shot in. Man this is terrible. He dragged Bruno down. Bruno tried to get to his feet as Franca tried to sneak to his back. He went for the choke but couldn’t get it. Bruno tried to slam Franca’s head to the mat, but Franca held position. He went for the choke again and this time got it under the chin and forced Bruno to tap. Took long enough.
WINNER: Franca via submission (rear naked choke) at 4:46 of the third round
STAR RATING: (*) Fine enough finish, but it came after an awful prior 14 and a half minutes. Really poor move to have these TUF Finals bouts on the main card tonight.
FIGHT SIX: MAURICIO “SHOGUN” RUA VS. ANTONIO ROGERIO NOGUEIRA (LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT)
ROUND ONE: Shogun took the center and tried to walk Nogueira down. He grazed him with a body kick to begin the striking. Nogueira threw out a straight left. Shogun landed a hard kick to the body, but the action was sparse early. Nogueira landed a short uppercut. Shogun landed a hard right hand as Nogueira missed. Nogueira clinched up. They separated. Shogun came forward and Nogueira landed a hard right before circling out. Nogueira got inside with a leg kick. They both swung and missed in close. Nogueira landed a hard left hand. Shogun went high with a kick that was blocked. He landed a hard kick to the body. Nogueira rocked Shogun with a left. Shogun was wobbled badly. Nogueira followed him to the cage and landed some big strikes as Shogun tried to fire out strikes back at him. Nogueira landed a knee but got hit with a left. He landed a straight left and brought Shogun to the cage. Nogueira grabbed a standing choke, gave it up, and started unleashing strikes. Shogun fired back with a few strikes, but Nogueira got in another knee to the body before the horn. Hot final minute.
Penick’s Scorecard: 10-9 Nogueira. He hurt Shogun badly there, and nearly finished it off. Left himself open for a few counters, but good finish to the round for him.
ROUND TWO: Shogun landed an early leg kick, then shot in and scored a takedown. That’s a strategy change. He landed some strikes from the top, but some fans booed the lack of major action on the ground. That continued as things failed to progress. Shogun tried to pass, but Nogueira escaped and got to his feet. Shogun landed a hard kick to the body. He got in another kick to the body. Shogun missed a strike and clinched. He got in some knees. More booing from the crowd before they were separated. Nogueira landed a right. Shogun landed another body kick. They traded punches and Shogun went back to the body. Shogun landed another kick before the horn.
Penick’s Scorecard: 10-9 Shogun. Nogueira just did nothing to follow up after the first. Nothing at all.
ROUND THREE: Shogun landed a kick to the body again. Nogueira tried to walk him down as Shogun landed a couple more kicks. Nogueira landed a left hand. Nogueira took another kick and landed a strike. He got in a knee to the body and stuffed a takedown attempt. It got held up in the clinch and there was some booing. They separated and traded punches. Shogun landed another hard body kick. Nogueira got in a short combination. Nogueira landed a hard straight left. Shogun fired back. He got in the body kick. He shot in for a single leg, but Nogueira stuffed it. They separated again. They traded punches. Shogun landed a hard two punch. Shogun landed a hard right hand. They traded punches again. More punches traded. Shogun shot in and Nogueira pulled guard with a guillotine late. Shogun tried to fight it as Nogueira tried to pull it off, and he finally popped his head out. He finished the round on top with some strikes.
Penick’s Scorecard: 10-9 Shogun. Those body kicks took over for Shogun here, and he’s probably going to walk away with the win here.
WINNER: Shogun via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
STAR RATING: (**) The first round was fun, it was less so from there. Necessary win for Shogun, while Nogueira cost himself that one by taking the second round off.
MAIN EVENT FIGHT SEVEN: RONDA ROUSEY VS. BETHE CORREIA (WOMEN’S BANTAMWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP)
ROUND ONE: No rush for Correia. Rousey landed the first right hand. Correia landed a left. Rousey got a hold of her head and landed a strike. Rousey got her to the cage and landed a flurry of strikes. She knocked her out cold with a right hand! WHAT THE F***! THAT WAS AMAZING!
WINNER: Rousey via KO at :34 of the first round
STAR RATING: (****) Incredible. Absolutely incredible. She’s just getting better, and with everyone else in the division already playing catchup
-Rousey paid tribute to Roddy Piper, and said she hoped him and her dad enjoyed watching down on the fight.
-Rousey quote: “I hope no one brings up my family anymore when it comes to fights. I hope this is the last time.”
