Artem Lobov is a man that always seems to find himself in confrontation. There is of course his interaction with Khabib Nurmagomedov earlier this year that spawned the Khabib-Conor McGregor feud, but it turns out that Lobov also has a compassionate side.
Michael Johnson took the fight with Lobov on short notice after Lobov’s original opponent Zubaira Tukhugov was pulled from the fight after the UFC 229 post-fight brawl. Johnson claimed he had to lose 30 pounds in the weeks leading up to the fight and he came up just a little short. One pound short to be exact. As a result, Johnson was fined 20 percent of his purse which goes straight to Lobov.
Lobov, however, promised to return the 20 percent as a gesture of goodwill for Johnson taking the fight on short notice. It is certainly a generous offer for Lobov to make, and even after defeating Lobov on Saturday night, Johnson plans to hold him to his promise.
“We’ll see if he’s a man of his word like he said, and he’ll give it back,” Johnson said at the post-fight press conference (via MMAJunkie). My management team’s going to get with his management team, and we’ll see what happens.”

The New Brunswick Combat Sport Commission hasn’t disclosed salaries for the event but Johnson earned $47,000 to show and $47,000 to win for his August win over Andre Fili. That would make his fine a hefty $18,800, so you can understand his motivation to want it back. The ball is now in Artem Lobov’s court.
