UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Teixeira was this past weekend and featured
some exciting fights and finishes. Who won and who lost? Let’s get to the rundown.
UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Teixeira
GOOD- Tuco Tokkos submits Junior Tafa
Tokkos gets an early takedown but not much happens so Tafa stands up.
Tokkos gets another takedown but Tafa is back up, only to get taken
down again. Tafa stands again and attacks with elbows but Tokkos
throws him down and they grapple until the first round ends. The second round begins with Tafa landing some powerful right hands and
Tokkos is down on the mat. Tafa makes him get up and Tokkos leaps
forward with a big right hand of his own that connects and lets him
get a takedown. Tokkos is warned for the second time for grabbing the
gloves of his opponent then gets warned for eye gouging when he puts
his hands all over Tafa’s face. He finally settles for a rear-naked choke that forces Tafa to tap nearly four and a half minutes into the
second round.
Tokkos improves to 11-5 while Tafa drops to 6-4. Good win for Tokkos.
GOOD- Vitor Petrino submits Austen Lane
Nothing happens for the opening half minute before they begin
exchanging some strikes. Petrino grabs a Lane kick and throws him
down. Petrino moves into full mount position on top and begins hunting
submissions. Petrino finally locks in a tight rear-naked choke that
forces the tap a bit over four minutes into the first round.
Petrino improves to 12-2 in his heavyweight debut while Lane drops to
13-7 with 1 No Contest. Good win for Petrino.
GOOD- Morgan Charriere stops Nate Landwehr
Charriere starts off with a series of powerful leg kicks. Charriere seems faster but then Landwehr plasters him with some strong punches.
Charriere works for and gets a takedown shortly before the first round
ends. The second round begins with some fast striking exchanges and
continues with Landwehr landing well as they slug it out. They smash
each other until the second round ends. The third round starts with
more fast striking exchanges and Landwehr gets staggered by a
Charriere right hand. Charriere is battering him on the fence and drops him, forcing the referee to jump in to stop the fight almost
thirty seconds into the third round.
Charriere improves to 21-11-1 while Landwehr drops to 18-7. Great win for Charriere.
GOOD- Calvin Kattar vs. Steve Garcia
Garcia is tearing into Kattar early with some good strikes. Garcia seems faster, though Kattar is tough. The second round begins with
more of the same, as Garcia continues to tear into Kattar’s face and
body. Garcia is faster and is making Kattar pay for any strikes he’s
able to land before the second round ends. The third round starts with
Garcia hurting Kattar and trying to finish him off but Kattar is too tough. Garcia continues to piece him up until the fight ends. We go to
the judges to render their verdict.
Garcia wins the decision to improve to 18-5 and has won 6 straight
fights while Kattar drops to 23-10 and has lost 5 straight fights.
Good win for Garcia.
GOOD- Stephen Thompson vs. Gabriel Bonfim
They’re trading kicks early until Bonfim gets a takedown. Thompson is
up but quickly right back down. They trade strikes, mainly kicks,
until the first round ends. The second round begins with more of the
same, as they trade kicks early and often. Bonfim gets a takedown and
they’re up and down quickly. Bonfim staggers Thompson, who fires back
with a massive head kick that staggers Bonfim back but he’s able to
survive until the second round ends. The third round starts with more
kicking exchanges. Thompson’s shin is bleeding heavily now. Bonfim gets a takedown but isn’t doing anything with it and the fight ends.
We go to the judges to render their verdict.
Bonfim wins the Split Decision to improve to 18-1 and has won 3
straight fights while Thompson drops to 17-9-1. Good win for Bonfim,
though I thought Thompson won the fight. It was close, though.
GOOD- Derrick Lewis stops Tallison Teixeira
Teixeira hits Lewis with a punch (thumb) to the eye but Lewis fights
back with a swarm of punches, ending in a huge left hand that drops
the towering Teixeira. Lewis follows up and pounces with punches as
Teixeira grabs the fence to stand before the referee waves the fight
off thirty seconds into the first round. Maybe a bit early but even if
it was, I think that just saved Teixeira from absorbing more punishment.
Lewis extends his incredible UFC Knockout Wins Record with his 16th
and improves his overall record to 29-12 with 1 No Contest while
Teixeira drops to 8-1 after 8 straight first-round finishes.
*************
UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture (19-11) was involved in a serious
accident while preparing to make his National Hot Rod Association
(NHRA) debut later this year. He suffered first and second degree burns, trauma injuries, and smoke inhalation.
Thankfully, he’s expected to recover.
I wish him the best and hope he has a speedy recovery.
My new epic fantasy book is out. It’s called Kingdom of Zarias: The End’s
Beginning. The exciting epic fantasy series Kingdom of Zarias
returns with the 4th book in the series. After the harrowing events of
Book 3 the residents of the Kingdom of Zarias continue on their paths.
Serena Summers continues to learn and grow as a fighter, desperately
seeking to become stronger before she loses anyone else in her life.
Daniel Summers discovers new parts of the world that open his eyes to
just how little he truly knows. A new hero, Lamar Abeers, arrives to
join the fight against evil. Plus, Zach Summers, Tiana Highsmith, and
Xavien Ekens continue their journeys with their friends, and a new ruler of Vhaharen is crowned. The world has found a little peace.
However, that peace is only temporary. In a shocking act of violence,
the monstrous villain Galren strikes from the shadows and changes the
world forever. This is Book 4 in the series. There’s lots of action,
magic, and monsters in the Kingdom of Zarias. It’s like a tabletop game in novel form. It’s on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and many other
places. If you’re interested, I would greatly appreciate it if you
