Michelle Waterson vs. Joanna Jedrzejczyk likely set for Oct. 12.
Whoever is the UFC strawweight champion in October, will likely know who their next challenger will be, by months end. According to a report by ESPN, former champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk will face Michelle Waterson, on a card scheduled to take place on Oct. 12.
The UFC has not announced a location for the event.
If the fight takes places, it will be Jedrzejczyk’s first outing since falling short in a flyweight title fight against Valentina Shevchenko in Dec. 2018.
Waterson is currently riding a three-fight losing streak, with wins over Cortney Casey, Felice Herrig, Karolina Kowalkiewicz.
Recently, Waterson campaigned for a shot at champion Jessica Andrade, over presumed top contender Tatiana Suarez. However, UFC president Dana White scoffed at the notion that the Waterson should be the next title challenger.
In the meantime, Andrade has been booked in a title fight against Weili Zhang on Aug. 31.
The winner of Jedrzejczyk would likely be a strong number-one contender candidate.
