“Brock Lesnar, if you want to know what it feels like to get your ass kicked by somebody who weighs 40 pounds less than you, meet me in the Octagon.”
-Jon Jones, after defeating Daniel Cormier to regain the UFC Light-Heavyweight Championship
And with that, let the hype begin for what might end up being the biggest UFC fight in history. Brock Lesnar, currently under contract with WWE, could end up returning to UFC either late this year or after WrestleMania next year, with Jones waiting for him.
UFC is looking to turn Jones into a top-tier PPV draw along the lines of Ronda Rousey, Conor McGregor, or Lesnar. A fight against Lesnar, with Jones moving up to the heavyweight division, is a possible avenue for that.
“I’m up for it,” Jones said on FS1’s UFC 214 post-fight show. “I think it’s about time for me to be involved in a super-fight. I think that’s what the fans really want to see – is me challenge myself against a heavyweight. Why not do against the biggest and one of the most scary heavyweights in UFC history in Brock Lesnar. He brings a tremendous following and I think it would be so great for the sport of MMA.”
On FS1’s UFC 214 postgame show, both Kenny Florian and Michael Bisping predicted Jones would win. Florian said he’s not sure Lesnar is his favorite pick for Jones’s first heavyweight opponent, though. The panel agreed it’s a big money fight, if it happens.
