Tate thinks it’s “disrespectful” if Rousey’s only wanting to come back to face her for one final fight

By Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

“Some people have been saying that she’s said, ‘I’ll come back for one fight against Miesha Tate because I know that I can beat her, and then I’m retiring.’ She doesn’t want to fight Holly [Holm]. I don’t know if that’s true or not, but I have heard that. If it is true, I find it disrespectful.”

-Miesha Tate responds to rumors that Ronda Rousey is willing to come back for one final fight if it’s against her in an interview with Megan Olivi on the UFC Fight Pass program The Exchange (transcribed by MMAJunkie.com).

Penick’s Analysis: If that’s the way Rousey truly feels – and we have no real idea yet as to what she’s thinking regarding her MMA future – then it’s an intentional sign of disrespect. If Rousey is willing to come back to fight Tate once more, it’s because she believes she can beat Tate at any point in time, especially after submitting her twice previously. Regardless of the confidence blow she suffered to Holly Holm, Rousey is likely to believe she’ll always have Tate’s number, so if she feels she can regain that belt and then ride off into the sunset, that may be what she tries to do.

  1. Tate would be very lucky if a third loss to Rousey wasn’t her own last fight, too. Nothing stopping Rousey from turning into the Rousimar Palhares of arms if the fear of a suspension doesn’t scare her off.

  2. I think rousey will eventually return to the ufc, but for now she is enjoying her new life and as far as tate goes i don’t care what she thinks of rousey. I realize that tate may have a hatred for rousey, but the feeling is mutual and a new and improved rousey will be back. Meisha tate may be champ now but her days are numbered and some one else will take that title from her, so i don’t see tate being the champ by february of next year. I think that title will change hands 2 more times before rousey gets it back.
