Bantamweight Eddie Wineland is returning to action this July one year after his most recent appearance, as he’ll take on Frankie Saenz at UFC on Fox 20 in Chicago.
The 31-year-old veteran has battled injuries over the last several years, and has been on the sidelines since the UFC’s last Chicago event – UFC on Fox 16 – last July. He lost a decision to Bryan Caraway on the card, his fifth loss in eight UFC appearances.
He’ll now take on Saenz. The 34-year-old is Wineland’s elder, but Wineland’s got twice the fighting experience in his career. Saenz suffered just his third career loss – and first in the UFC – in December, dropping a decision to the division’s next title contender, Urijah Faber.
The UFC’s return to Chicago comes on July 23, a year after T.J. Dillashaw defeated Renan Barao for the second time at the United Center. No headliner is yet set for the event.
