Aljamain Sterling says he won’t be waiting for UFC’s New York debut for next fight: “The kid needs to get paid”

“For me to wait and take my name out of relevancy for so long would be silly on my part. I’d rather get it in now and come out of the fight hopefully not too banged up and get ready for the next one, which would be MSG or wherever it is they’re going to hold the first UFC event in New York… I want to fight now. I need a fight now. The kid needs to get paid. There’s bills to be paid, there’s people that need to get choked out, and there’s a belt that’s shining and I see the light. I want to go get after that.”

New York’s Aljamain Sterling talks to MMAJunkie.com and explains why he won’t be waiting for the UFC’s New York debut for his next fight.

Penick’s Analysis: Smart move from Sterling. He tested free agency and re-signed with the UFC because he wanted a pay bump, and that doesn’t kick in until he actually fights on that deal. Waiting until November is delaying a payday, especially when he could get himself a fight this summer and still then compete on the UFC’s New York debut in the fall. This is the right stance for him, and hopefully he can get a significant matchup booked soon. He deserves it at this point.
