After picking up a split decision win over Chad Laprise on Saturday night, Ross Pearson is looking to avenge one particular loss on his record: the infamous split against Diego Sanchez.
“It’s like, ‘you motherf****r, you got away that night,'” Pearson said when talking about the Sanchez fight after UFC Fight Night 85 (via the UK’s Daily Star).
“I love Diego, I love what he’s all about. He’s an old school guy and stands in the middle of the cage and he fights. But there’s no way he won that fight. The world knows it.”
Pearson’s got some other ideas for potential opponents, but says Sanchez – who recently picked up his first entirely justified decision win in years over Jim Miller – is at the top of the list.
“Eddie Alvarez, I think that’s a great fight,” Pearson said. “He stands in the middle and swings and fights. Gilbert Melendez is another one.
“But if there’s one name in my career that I need to whip so bad is Diego Sanchez.”
Penick’s Analysis: That’s a highly appropriate fight to book for both of them. Pearson’s firmly middle of the pack at lightweight, as is Sanchez, and given the historically awful decision that came down in their first fight, a rematch would be justified.
