John Dodson may have his opponent sent for his move back up to bantamweight, as this week’s episode of UFC Tonight on Fox Sports 1 featured a report that the UFC is targeting him for a fight with Bryan Caraway this spring.

Dodson, winner of the 14th season of The Ultimate Fighter and two-time UFC Flyweight Title challenger, is 6-2 overall in his UFC run, with both losses coming to Champ Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson. That second loss in his most recent fight prompted the move back up to bantamweight.

Caraway is 5-2 in his UFC run thus far dating back to 2011. His two losses came in close decisions to Takeya Mizugaki and Raphael Assuncao, though he bounced back from the latter defeat in his most recent bout when he defeated Eddie Wineland last July.

No date or location is set for the bout, and it’s not officially signed, but it would serve as a significant matchup in the 135 lb. field.

Penick’s Analysis: I like this matchup a lot. It’s a good opportunity for Caraway, while being a legitimate test for Dodson to plug himself right into the bantamweight picture. It’s a fun fight stylistically as well, which only adds to its appeal.
