A couple of new fights have been confirmed for the UFC 197 card in Las Vegas on March 5, as Tom Lawlor will take on Corey Anderson, while Erick Silva takes on Nordine Taleb.
Lawlor returned to the light heavyweight division last July for the first time since his UFC debut in 2008, and he made it a successful one by knocking out Gian Villante in the second round at UFC on Fox 16. He was scheduled for a bout in November before pulling himself out due to concussion symptoms, and he’ll try to pick up his third straight win on this major card.
Anderson, winner of the light heavyweight tournament in The Ultimate Fighter’s 19th season, has gone 3-1 in the UFC since that season win. He’s won consecutive bouts, including a win over Fabio Maldonado in November.
Silva, despite several highlight reel performances in the UFC, has continued to be inconsistent inside the cage, and he hopes to bounce back from a loss to Neil Magny last August in his most recent bout. That fight came on short notice for Magny, and snapped a two-fight winning streak for the Brazilian.
Taleb, who took part in two seasons of TUF in the Australia vs. Canada “Nations” run and TUF 19, is 3-1 overall inside the Octagon. He won three straight fights in a one year span after his debut in April 2014, but had that snapped his last time out when he was submitted by Warlley Alves.
UFC 197 hits Las Vegas on March 5 with a double main event in Rafael dos Anjos vs. Conor McGregor and Holly Holm vs. Miesha Tate.
