Holm’s new UFC contract reportedly a “multi-million dollar” deal, Champ could fight again before Rousey returns

Holly Holm signed a new contract extension with the UFC this weekend, and according to a follow up report from the LA Times, it’s a multi-million dollar deal upwards of eight fights. As to what’s next for the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion, that hasn’t yet been decided.

“I honestly don’t know what we’re going to do,” UFC President Dana White said, adding that he’s yet to have any business discussions with Ronda Rousey since her UFC 193 loss to Holm.

However, Holm’s team is still pushing for a fight soon while Rousey handles her film commitments, and doesn’t want to have to wait until UFC 200. Nothing’s booked yet, but White admits they could still have Holm fight someone else before that planned July 9 event.

“It’s possible,” White said of Holm fighting again. “We have nothing done yet. We have a lot of work to do.”

Penick’s Analysis: It seems they’re starting to lean towards giving Holm a fight soon. It’s risky, and a loss for Holm derails what could be a massive rematch for UFC 200, so they may still waver back and forth on actually making something happen. Still, Holm wants to fight, she’s going to be getting paid even more going forward, and if she beats someone else to retain that title in only bolsters her spot on top. Again, it’s a risky proposition, but Holm and her team clearly want to get her back in the cage, and if the UFC decides it’s worth the risk to give her what she wants, they’ll book her again soon. If no announcement is made in the next week or two, though, it’s likely she’ll be held out until UFC 200.
