“Georges, he wasn’t as dangerous but he did have his aura about him. He had this mystique. Robbie not so much, but he’s the more dangerous fighter… They’re going to lock us in the cage and me and Robbie Lawler are going to try to f***ing kill each other. I think we’re two of the most skilled guys in the division, for sure. If not the sport. I think we’re going to go in there and put on a display of violence and aggression that people won’t soon forget.”
-During UFC 195 open workouts, UFC Welterweight Title challenger Carlos Condit talks about the difference between facing Georges St-Pierre for the title and the matchup he’s got with Robbie Lawler (via BloodyElbow.com).
Penick’s Analysis: This fight has high expectations as one that’s going to bring a ridiculous level of violence, and Condit’s not wrong about the danger present in facing Lawler as opposed to St-Pierre. St-Pierre would break spirits and out-work opponents, but he wasn’t as likely during his title reign to batter someone the way that we’ve seen Lawler batter several of his opponents. That doesn’t mean Lawler’s a better fighter than St-Pierre was, but there is something to Lawler’s striking that should strike fear in most sane human beings. Carlos Condit isn’t a sane human being, and is capable of just as much violent destruction in that cage. The hope all around is that they’ll live up to that hype. We’ll see on Saturday night.
