Earlier this month, a Facebook post from an Ontario fight store led to speculation that Robbie Lawler had suffered a UFC 195-threatening injury. Warrior Fight Store claimed he was scheduled for an appearance, but was unable to appear due to an injury; from there, rampant speculation led to concern about the UFC 195 main event between Lawler and Carlos Condit staying intact, but Lawler himself on Monday said there was nothing to the claims.

“I got calls saying, ‘Hey, are you hurt?’. [I said,] ‘Um, no I’m just sitting here relaxing.’ I just had no idea anything was going on, because I don’t really get on social media much,” Lawler said during a media conference call on Monday (transcribed by MMAFighting.com). “So, maybe a couple days later I kind of figured it out.

“I guess some guy up in Canada thought I was gonna do like an appearance three or four weeks before my [fight] up in some cold weather. He must have been talking to not my people. Somebody must have sold them on me actually going up there… I think he just talked to the wrong guy. He didn’t talk to my people. I wasn’t injured and I definitely wasn’t going up to Canada four weeks before my fight.”

Whether anything had happened or not, Lawler remains in the main event this Saturday night in Las Vegas, and hopes to make another successful defense of the UFC Welterweight Championship.

Penick’s Analysis: It’s a great thing that Lawler isn’t hurt, because this card falls apart without that main event. Lawler-Condit is worth every penny of the pay-per-view price, but the rest of the pay-per-view card would be better suited to Fox Sports 1 or a Fox event, and that’s just clear on paper. Thankfully it appears all is well, and the fight will go on without any lingering issues, but it’s no surprise the rumors earlier in the month caused some concern about the event itself.
